Antipodean Cafe, Telawi Bangsar

The first time I entered this cafe, I was overwhelmed by writing and prices on the wall and I soon found out that all those "writings" on the wall were in fact, the menu. The menu is scribbled all over the walls of the little cosy cafe.

The interior of the cafe is small, cosy, rustic and minimalist. It's like those little, French cafes that are hidden gems with good food and cosy ambiance. I went there during tea so, the crowd hasn't come in yet but I heard that breakfast time, it's really busy!

Restaurants which gives free of less than 1MYR water always receives a plus from me. This who don't and forces people to buy their bottled water *ahem* NANDO'S *ahem* is just too kiam siap and I would boycott them real soon. Antipodean gives you water in this pretty "kicap" bottle. It's like a vintage novelty and I loved it. Another thing is the pretty little cup with freshly cut carnations that makes you feel like having breakfast in bed. I love little things like these. Bonus plus points!

This was our Burmese Shredded Chicken Salad (15MYR) which doesn't taste like your average salads because they use cabbage and shredded chicken with basil leaves and little tomatoes... It's tart and acidic salad dressing is just unique. You have to try it and I loved it!

This was the Thai Chicken Satay with Crushed Peanuts (can't remember the price) was really delicious!!! But I still prefer the normal satay peanut sauce. It would be the bomb! You see, we used to love Hj. Samuri and Restoran Malaysia for satay. But recently, the standard at Hj. Samuri dropped like the plummeting stock market and we were on the search for the next satay place. The chicken satay here is moist, juicy and flavourful on its own but I'm a typical Malaysia when it comes to malaysian food (a purist la!) and it would taste totally wonderful if it comes with the normal kuah kacang... mmm... *YUMMY*

Cooking With Salmon

I'm crazy over Salmon nowadays. I find that it's the healthier alternatives to red meat and poultry and richer in oils and more nutritious. This is the salmon steak from Dome Cafe with rice. Salmon is so delicious!!! This is not bad but the price tag of 30+MYR is a little steep for lunch.

I bought this 2 slices of salmon fillet from Jaya Grocer at 10MYR and 11 MYR per slab! Super fresh and I wanted to pan fry it with a side of salad. Just marinate it with some S&P, let it rest and if you want a little spicy, put some Cayenne Pepper flakes like I did for The Fiance's fish.

I love Hollandaise sauce and how well it goes with salmon or egg dishes, so, after pan frying, I just heat up the bottle of hollandaise sauce (I got mine at Marks & Spencer) and it was delicious. Super simple to make and oh-so-delicious!

If you've read my previous post on Plan B and I was gushing about how much I love their Eggs Royale and how I promised that I'll attempt to make it, well, I made it. It was fast, easy and most of the time, you just assemble everything.

The salmon i used is the precut, prepacked and cold salmon. I got mine for 11MYR at Jaya Grocer and the English Muffins was 3.50MYR for a pack of 3 from the baker's son (Jaya Grocer at Damansara Perdana) and I only used 1. I'm going to give you the recipe to make the perfect eggs benedict which is just poached eggs.

POACHED EGG RECIPE:
1) Boil the water until it starts to simmer then add about 5ml of VINEGAR into the water and lower the heat.
2) Break the egg into a bowl first and then slowly lower it into the simmering water, allowing the water to enter the bowl and slowly pouring the eggs into the pot.
3) Use a ladle and keep the yolk close to the whites and after a few moments, you have your pretty pretty poached egg!

This is how a perfectly poached egg SHOULD look like.

Till the next time!

Maria's Cafe, Metropolitan SQ, Damansara Perdana

I've been on a strict diet since I joined Bizzy Body in order to lose weight for my graduation. Since then, I've been craving for salmon non stop. over the course of the next few posts, I'll be experimenting with Salmon, sliced salmon, raw salmon, etc... Anyways, I actually planned on cooking salmon but after reading numerous positive reviews about Maria's just downstairs of our home made my mouth water and I wanted to try the Grilled Salmon Fillet. Let me tell you, the meat just melt in your mouth and the tangerine sauce was absolutely delicious!!!! I would definitely go back again!!!

The Fiance had the creamy pasta with seafood and the sauce was home made and was above average. We concluded that Dave's, 1 Utama still serves the best pasta EVER! The Fiance isn't a fan of salmon and he prefers pasta dishes or his country's food so, he's a tad difficult to feed. hahahaha.

Maria's was relatively OK, will definitely bring Madrekins and the Familia to have dinner here someday. You have to note that the food and the ingredients used to prepare the food are fresh and everything has a home made taste to it...

You can check them out on Facebook and you can locate them at:

Mille Crepe, Humble Beginnings.

I won these 2 vouchers from ESQUIRE Malaysia to try the Mille Crepe from Humble Beginnings. They were oh-so-generous to give me 2 vouchers for 2 regular mille crepe cakes. Prior to the vouchers arriving, me and Madrekins debated about the vouchers. We thought they were going to give us a voucher for a slice of cake not 2 whole cakes! Really appreciated their kind gesture.

I love the design and the packaging of the box and it's simple but from the design, you can see that much thought has been put into it. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for the staff at the Telawi store. They didn't understand questions like "May I know who's on the line please?" and they replied us with sentences like "You better come now, we do not know when we'll close" and after that slamming the phone down. The staff were unknowledgeable, difficult to communicate with, rude and very rude. You see, before we went to collect the cake, we wanted to know if the cake was ready for collection. The first person that picked up the phone was relatively OK and was able to confirm that the cake was indeed ready for collection. When I enquired for his name, the passed the call to Person 2 who was female and she sounded upset and was very rude and told us to, "come soon because we can close anytime" If I'm running a business and I'm also in the service line, what will the customers think? you open and close the shop to your heart's fancy? Seriously. Extremely disappointed with the service aspect that we even considered "burning" the other voucher.

The cake that we ordered was Nutella Banana and I'm a dessert person, I've tried mille crepes of all sorts and as a traveller, I've tried mille crepes in many parts of the world. You see, mille crepe is a fascination to me, I find it so delicate and the assembling of the cake requires much finesse and experience from the ingredients used to make the crepes (paper thin) and the layering. The ingredients has to be fresh and needless to say, Humble Beginnings has mastered the art of making mille crepes to perfection. It was moist, flavorful but not too sweet, decadent but not till the point that it overwhelms you. Indeed, it was THE BEST 20 layers of decadent, milky mille crepe that I've ever tasted in my life. I pretty much tasted lots of cakes but this has got to be the best!

If you have yet to try a decent mille crepe, I would strongly suggest that you try the cakes from Humble Beginnings. It's the most delicious cake. I'm even considering a cake from Humble Beginnings for my birthday in October. A slice of the cake puts you in heaven. I even momentarily forgot about the bad customer service.

Plan B, Paradigm Mall

At Plan B, you think BIG!!!

Duck and Orange Salad (20MYR) was refreshing, light, and absolutely delicious. It had watercress, orange pieces, onions, pumpkin seeds and maple syrup dressing. The salad isn't your average crispy, lettuce salad, the water cress isn't crispy but the whole salad and the duck blends well creating a tangy, meaty, bitter flavours that explodes in your mouth!

Eggs Royale (17MYR) with a slice of smoked salmon on an English muffin, topped with a poached egg and drizzled with Hollandaise sauce. I loved this dish very much because I recently acquired the taste for salmon (raw!) and I never knew a simple everyday english muffin (We have this at home because this is the only "bread" my brother eats!) and eggs could taste so good. I tried making this at home, bought the chilled smoked salmon slices, poached the egg and even made the Hollandaise sauce (which was basically egg yolks based!) and it was delicious too! So, I find this way over priced.

A packet of chilled smoked salmon 4-5 slices (12MYR) Pack of 3 English muffins (4MYR) and eggs (2-3MYR)

Chicken Percik (25MYR) was extremely filling and satisfying. Delicious spicy chicken marinated with herbs served with local herbs, budu, solak lada, nasi ulam and keropok. It's a real, typical Malaysian/Kelantanese food and I could say that they made it as authentic as it can get. I think this can feed 3 people and its really good.

Since madrekins was on leave and she wanted to check H&M at Paradigm Mall out (yes, it was HER, not me!) so, we decided to try Plan B since we've tried Journal by Plan B (Publika) and Puran B (ISETAN,1 Utama) which was relatively good and will be addressed (waaaay!) later on my blog. So, stay tuned.

Anyways, Plan B performed above average but I hated the queue to be taken to your seats. Honestly, I don't believe in queuing up for food, it's so 3rd world country and since we don't have 1.3Billion population like China, I don't see why we have to queue. Yea, the other place that I had to queue at EVERY eating establishment was in Shanghai, China.

Most of the time, it's just over rated and Malaysians really like queueing. But I thought, it was a working weekday so, there wouldn't be a queue and even if there is, I doubt it'll be bad. When we arrived, the queue was thankfully short. About 5 minutes.  Hence, we decided to eat here.

I would recommend this place for Western/Asian/Fusion food so, do give it a try! For more information, you could check them out ONLINE!!!

Dip N Dip, Telawi, Bangsar

Since we already had dinner at Bangsar Village and random people were checking into Dip N Dip at Telawi, we thought we might as well try it out since we love chocolates.

We ordered this cookie crepe where a layer of cookie base is covered with a crepe and "drizzled" with white chocolate, milk chocolate and white chocolate. I knees go weak at the mere mention of chocolate!!! This shop, sells everything chocolate!

As a child, I loved mixing everything with chocolate, I mix Nutella with rice, cereals, fruits and yogurt. I'm a sucker for chocolate and that explains my weight! I consumed too much chocolates. What I loved about this franchise from Syria is that, you could have chocolate fountains ala Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory or Chocolate Pizza.

You can have your milk, white or dark chocolate with fruits, wafles, crepes, cookies, pizzas, drinks, and even with a cinnamon pouch!!! The possibilities are endless.

Anyhow, I was really put off by the service. You see, it's a relatively small place with around 10 tables and the waiters were "huru hara" trying to accommodate the customers. When we finally got a table, the waiter accidentally spilled a whole hot choclate on the floor and some even splashed on my clothes but he didn't even apologize not did he clean the mess up.

All he did was cleared the broken glasses and left the mess there and we had to sit on the "clean" side of the table and one side was dirty. The mess was still there when we paid for the bill. We were just too tired to argue and make a fuss.

We wanted to enjoy our dessert and go home. Another thing is, the service is so slow! We're not talking about a huge ass shop with 50 over tables, its just 10 tables and they can't even handle it with 5 staffs working that day.

I guess, I'll only come back when I want death by chocolate. If not, Theobroma Chocolate Lounge will suffice for now... It's such a sad thing when you have such a great place, great menu but bad customer service. Such a waste.
